Ida Elizabeth Jackson WesleyFondly known as “Libby”, was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. After moving to Delray Beach in 1958, she became a substitute teacher and eventually became a full-time employee with the Palm Beach County School District, where she went on to have a highly acclaimed 37-year career. Proud mother of four children, Libby Wesley has dedicated her life to the service of her family, community, and the field of education. As a strong advocate for volunteerism and leadership, she has been affiliated with many organizations including the Delray Beach Rotary Club, the Urban League of Palm Beach County, the NAACP, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In Delray Beach, Libby is best known for her role as co-founder of the Roots Cultural Festival, which flourished for more than 20 years under her leadership. What began as a one-day event in the Jefferson Manor neighborhood in 1978 grew into a nonprofit organization that celebrates African American culture through its year-round programming and summer weekend festival.

Over the years, Libby Wesley has received many prestigious awards and honors including: the Old School Square Lifetime Achievement Award; the Service Above Self Award from the Rotary Club of Delray Beach; the JM Family Enterprises African American Achiever’s Award; the Sojourner Truth Award; and the Sun Sentinel Publisher’s Award.
