ARTIST Bio
Samuel Spear is a former New York based computer consultant who first picked up a camera in the early 1970s. “For many years, as soon as I saved enough, I bought a plane ticket going somewhere,” he said, describing his first love — travel. Over time, the travel and the many photographs taken with each trip evolved from tourist taking pictures to full-fledged street photographer. Now, retired and living in Delray Beach, Fla., Sam fully embraces life as “... an amateur street photographer.”
After COVID-19, Spear’s trips to far-flung destinations have resumed recently visiting Seville (2021 and 2022), Porto (2022), Marseille, Fez and Morocco (2021 and 2022), and Japan (2023). However, he remains active in the Delray Beach arts community and has exhibited photographs at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, the ArtsWarehouse, Boca BRiC Museum 2023, and the Palm Beach Cultural Council.
Spear’s work has appeared in Black & White Photography Magazine and recently a 2023 Nominee for the B&W Spider Awards (People/Amateur category).
This exhibit is a combination of street/travel photography and some artistic expression. My preference is to capture people being themselves. The traveler side of me benefits from meeting and talking to.very interesting people anywhere. Each image has a story, a message, or conversation for you, take time. ........Peace.
“I have always regarded myself as a traveler and not a photographer.” — Samuel Spear Jr
