COVID-19 Emergency Loans -- Small Business Guide and Checklist

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 - 10:30am

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated $350 billion to help small businesses keep workers employed amid the pandemic and economic downturn. Known as the Paycheck Protection Program, the initiative provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to small businesses.

Importantly, these loans may be forgiven if borrowers maintain their payrolls during the crisis or restore their payrolls afterward. The administration soon will release more details including the list of lenders offering loans under the program.

In the meantime, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has issued this guide to help small businesses and self-employed individuals prepare to file for a loan.

Here are the questions yo may be asking--and what you need to know.

Ways to Support Small Businesses in Downtown Delray Beach During COVID-19

Wednesday, March 18, 2020 - 6:31pm

Ways to Support Small Businesses in Downtown Delray Beach

In Downtown Delray Beach, small business is key. The fabric of our downtown is mom and pop stores, our vibrant and delicious restaurants, creative art galleries, hotel accommodations, educational museums, coffee shops, bakeries, candy stores, and much more! The lively hood of these businesses relies on serving both visitors and local residents.

Due to the rapid spread of the novel COVID-19 virus, downtown events and gatherings have been canceled until further notice resulting in the loss of revenue among our locally owned, small businesses. They need community support more than ever right now!

Here are some ways you can help: Make a purchase online from a local business in the coming days or weeks. Whether it's for yourself or for family or friends a small gift card, food delivery, curbside pick-up, social media orders, or online orders…

  • We know most of you are professional Amazon orderers, so see what you can shift over to your local businesses. Chocolate, coffee, clothing, books, art and more can be delivered right to your door.
  • Many local restaurants are providing curbside pick-up, delivery through platforms like Delivery Dudes, UberEats, Postmates, Grubhub, etc., the option to purchase gift cards directly on their website or by phone, and pop-up produce and liquor pick-up.
  • Tickets for future hands-on classes or events can be purchased now in order to help keep small businesses running, gift cards for retail shops, curbside pick-up for phone or website orders as well as delivery for online orders are still available!

Below, we've rounded up what our businesses in Downtown Delray are offering (Note: we will continue to update this list as we receive more information!)

If you don't see a business you're looking for, you can always give them a call directly to ask what options they may have. If you can't afford to make a purchase right now, consider sharing this page with a friend or family member who may be interested in helping! Remember: Any little thing helps right now.

Please note that some businesses in the Downtown Delray area are fully open (within the compliance of the City ordinance), some restaurants have moved to takeout service only and some may be temporarily closed. These statuses will be fluid so you should check websites and social media for updates before traveling. The Downtown Development Authority is currently tracking businesses that are temporarily closed. Please click here to see the most up-to-date list!

Florida Activates Emergency Loan Program for Small Businesses

Tuesday, March 17, 2020 - 10:15am

Florida activates emergency loan program for small businesses
Mar 17, 2020, 7:24am EDT

The application period for the recently activated Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan program opened Tuesday for companies whose cash flows have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With both local and national governments placing restrictions on gatherings, and even implementing curfews in an effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, small businesses across sectors including hospitality, retail, transportation and logistics have experienced steep drops in sales in recent days.
But through May 8, small business owners with two to 100 employees can apply for the short-term interest-free loans of up to $50,000. Up to $50 million has been allocated for the program, according to an announcement from Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"As we mitigate against the spread of COVID-19, the health, safety and well-being of Floridians comes first," DeSantis said. "I understand the harm mitigation strategies will have on small businesses throughout our state. By activating the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan, we are providing the opportunity for Florida’s small businesses to receive cash immediately to ensure they can lessen the impacts felt as a result of COVID-19."
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) will administer the loans in partnership with the Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network and Florida First Capital Finance Corp. The loans are interest-free for up to one year

To qualify, businesses must have been established before March 9 and be able to demonstrate the impact that the coronavirus has had on their cash flows.
Businesses with questions about the program can email disaster@FloridaSBDC.org or call (866) 737-7232.
The DEO is surveying Florida businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus at FloridaDisaster.biz.
