Message from Delray Beach Mayor Cary Glickstein Regarding Hurricane Irma

Wednesday, September 6, 2017 - 10:05am
Message from Delray Beach Mayor Cary Glickstein:

As Hurricane Irma approaches, the storm's impact to our city remains unknown, but our mission is clear - to stay safe no matter what comes our way. I urge all residents, visitors and business owners to prepare as best you can by stocking up on supplies, securing your homes and lending a hand to neighbors who need it.

During any major storm, it's also important to stay informed as the forecast changes, so if you haven't yet, follow the city's social media pages, and sign up for CodeRED. It's our way of getting critical information to you during extreme weather events such as Hurricane Irma. CodeRED sends notifications via voice calls, text messages and emails free of charge, so even if your power goes out, you can still receive crucial updates from city officials and emergency managers on your phone about evacuations, warnings, curfews, city services during the hurricane, shelters and more. To sign up, visit the city's Emergency Management web page or click  here.

You'll also find answers to all of your storm-related questions - from evacuation zones to preparing your pets for an emergency to where to find the right shelter for your family - on the city's website:  www.mydelraybeach.com/departments/protection.php. Take a few minutes to explore this information-packed site.  If you decide to leave South Florida,  FL511.com  is the state website for traffic conditions on state highways.  This afternoon, Governor Scott advised there are adequate fuel supplies along state highways.

I wouldn't ask you to do something we haven't done ourselves. Rest assured that the city of Delray Beach and its first responders are as prepared for Hurricane Irma as possible, and I am confident we will all weather this storm together.

Stay safe, Delray Beach.

Cary Glickstein
Mayor
