City of Delray Beach Launches Mobile Payment for Parking

The Parkmobile app will allow customers to use their mobile devices to easily pay for parking

DELRAY BEACH, FL, June 15, 2017 - The City of Delray Beach is proud to announce the implementation of the pay-by-phone/app service, Parkmobile, in both the Old School Square and the Federspiel garages in the downtown area.

The City charges a flat $5 fee from 4 p.m. until midnight, Thursday through Saturday for parking.

Payment is not required for vehicles parked in the garages before 4 p.m. and can remain in the garage after 4 p.m. for no additional cost. However, drivers that exit the garage after 4 p.m. will be required to pay the $5 fee upon return. Parking for persons who have disabled parking permits will be free throughout the City, whether the visitor chooses to park on the street, in a surface parking lot or in one of our parking garages.

The Parkmobile app allows customers to effortlessly input payment information, while also sending a 15-minute reminder before the meter expires. Current Parkmobile users will receive a prompt upon entering the garage inviting them to pay for parking using the app.

Ambassadors from the City's parking management contract firm, Lanier, will be on hand in both garages to assist patrons with this process. Further updates on City parking will follow.

Delray Beach stakes the claim as 2017 'All-America' City

Monday, June 19, 2017 - 9:52am
DELRAY BEACH, FL, June 16, 2017 - Delray Beach has again captured the title of All-America City (AAC) for the third time, and stands as the only Florida city to yield this accomplishment.  Delray Beach was among fifteen communities across the country honored at the AAC conference in Denver, Colorado for its civic engagement to help young children from low-income families achieve grade-level reading proficiency and early school success.

"It's such an honor to receive our third All America City award, the oldest (1894) and most prestigious civic award by the National Civic League," said Mayor Cary Glickstein.  "We are the only Florida city to have accomplished this. Working together, we have made meaningful and measurable progress in addressing one of our country's greatest challenges - improving reading proficiency among our youth."

To select the fifteen Award recipients, a panel of judges examined the progress reports from the 27 communities that were nominated as finalists. The 2017 AAC Award recipients are communities that:
  • Demonstrated they have moved the needle on outcomes for children from low-income families in at least two of the following community solutions areas: school readiness, school attendance, summer learning and/or grade-level reading.
  • Addressed the National Civic League's key process criteria of civic engagement, cross-sector collaboration and inclusiveness.Created a plan for sustainability and for aligning, linking, stacking and bundling proven and the most promising programs, practices, and strategies.
  • Bonus points will be awarded for communities that have a plan for sustainability and for aligning, linking, stacking and bundling the most promising and proven programs, practices and strategies.

The All-America City Award is the country's original and most prestigious community recognition award. Since its inception, more than 500 communities of all sizes have earned this distinguished title.Community members, government, businesses and nonprofit organizations continue to work together to address critical local issues.

Delray Beach honored as "2017 Playful City USA Community"!

Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - 2:12pm

DELRAY BEACH (May 17, 2017) - The City of Delray Beach is proud to announce that the national non-profit KaBOOM! is honoring the City with a 2017 Playful City USA designation for the second time. Playful City USA honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills. These communities are transforming ordinary places into playful spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents.

The 2017 Playful City USA recognition includes 258 communities from across the nation that make it as easy as possible for kids to play. In total, these communities feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging playspaces that serve more than 4 million kids.

"The City of Delray Beach is proud to be recognized as a 2017 Playful City USA community," said City of Delray Beach Mayor Cary Glickstein. "The City values the recreational and leisure pursuits of our residents and visitors and currently has 24 playgrounds located within our wonderful park system. In addition to our current play spaces, the City is working together with community partners to expand our play space inventory and will install a fitness park and new boundless playground before the end of the year. The City of Delray Beach is committed to providing quality places for our residents and visitors to "Get Out, Get Up, and Get Active" in our community."

As cities are becoming sources for innovation, communities across the country are creating inventive ways to attract and retain residents. Playful City USA honorees are taking bold action to ensure kids have great places to play - all with the ultimate goal of making play the easy choice for all kids, no matter where they live. In addition to the playground down the street, Playful City USA communities are turning grocery stores, vacant lots, crosswalks and sidewalks into opportunities for play.

"We are thrilled to recognize the City of Delray Beach for putting kids first," said KaBOOM! CEO James Siegal. "The well-being of our communities starts with the well-being of our kids, and play is critical for them to thrive. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that all kids get the childhood they deserve filled with play."

To see the full list of Playful City USA communities and to learn more about making play the easy choice for kids, visit kaboom.org/playfulcityusa. You can also take part in the conversation with leaders across the country using #PLAYceforkids on Twitter and Facebook.
