River of Grass EXHIBITION OPENING

Details

The Cornell Art Museum at Old School Square is proud to collaborate with the Fiber Artist Miami Association and The Center: Hollywood Art & Culture Center to present River of Grass, a site-specific installation exploring the ecological and cultural story of the Florida Everglades.

Featuring the work of 12 artists, the exhibition transforms the museum’s two lower galleries into immersive corridors of woven environments. Custom-built, six-foot-square looms serve as both canvas and architectural elements, creating a unique installation that invites visitors to experience the Everglades from an entirely new perspective.

Using fiber arts, natural elements, and traditional and contemporary weaving techniques, the artists create sculptural interpretations of this vital Florida ecosystem. The exhibition is inspired by and pays homage to Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ influential 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass.

Join us for an evening celebrating art, nature, and Florida’s cultural heritage at the Cornell Art Museum.

“We are especially pleased to collaborate with the Fiber Artist Miami Association and The Center: Hollywood Art & Culture Center to bring River of Grass to the Cornell Art Museum. Through their innovative work in this unique collection of woven works of art, the artists honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s enduring vision while reminding us of the Everglades’ vital role in Florida’s ecological and cultural identity—and the importance of protecting it.”
