Downtown Event & Business Development Manager

Position Summary
The Downtown Event Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and
evaluation of events and activations that enhance economic vitality, increase foot traffic, and
strengthen the downtown district’s brand. This position plays a key role in producing highquality, community-focused events that support local businesses, engage residents, and attract
visitors.

The Event Manager ensures that all downtown events reflect the DDA’s mission, meet
professional production standards, operate within budget, and deliver measurable economic
impact.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Event Planning & Execution

• Develop and execute an annual downtown events and activation calendar aligned with
the DDA’s strategic plan.
• Produce signature festivals, cultural events, seasonal programming, and economic
activation initiatives.
• Oversee all logistical planning including site design, permitting, vendor coordination,
staging, entertainment, security, sanitation, and traffic management.
• Develop detailed event timelines, production schedules, and contingency plans.
• Serve as on-site lead during events to ensure smooth operations.

Economic Impact & Business Engagement
• Collaborate with downtown businesses to integrate them into events and maximize
economic return.
• Develop vendor policies that prioritize local participation where appropriate.
• Track and report key performance metrics including attendance, business participation,
and economic impact.
• Work with marketing staff to ensure events drive measurable foot traffic and sales
activity.

Budget & Financial Management
• Develop and manage event budgets; ensure fiscal responsibility and cost control.
• Secure sponsorships and partnerships to offset event expenses.
• Negotiate contracts with vendors, entertainers, and service providers.
• Process invoices and maintain accurate financial documentation.

Permitting & Compliance
• Coordinate with city departments, police, fire, and public works to secure permits and
approvals.
• Ensure compliance with municipal regulations, safety standards, and insurance
requirements and oversee risk management and emergency planning procedures.

Marketing & Communications
• Collaborate with marketing team on promotional strategies, timelines, and branding.
• Provide content for event marketing materials, press releases, and social media.
• Represent the DDA at community meetings and stakeholder presentations.

Vendor & Volunteer Management
• Recruit, manage, and evaluate vendors, sponsors, and event partners.
• Oversee volunteer coordination when applicable.
• Maintain strong working relationships with production teams and contractors.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Marketing, Public Administration, Hospitality,
or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience producing public events,
festivals, or community programming.
• Experience working with municipalities or downtown districts preferred.
• Strong budgeting and contract negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of permitting, safety regulations, and large-scale event logistics.
• Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods during events.

Compensation Package:

  • Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
