Calling all Home Bakers!
The Delray Beach Public Library is going COCO-Nuts and bringing back a reimagined version of the baking contest. It is the height of the coconut season and we are inviting all home bakers to bring their coconut recipes to life in our annual community bakeoff. Dust off your family’s cookbooks and recipes or share your one-of-a-kind creation with us.
While Coconuts are not native to Florida, the first documented introduction was around the mid 1800’s which is when it is believed that sailors and traders from the Caribbean and other tropical regions brought them. The image of coconuts has become synonymous with our state’s identity and are a great staple with which to bake with.
Entries will be capped at 20 total as space is limited. Entry form deadline is Monday, September 23 at 5PM. Cakes, pies, and bars are allowed to be entered. The registration fee to enter the contest is $10.00. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded along with a people’s choice award.
Our local celebrity Judges this year include: Lisabet “LB” Summa. Executive Culinary Director and Chef Partner, Big Time Restaurant Group, Winnie Diggans Edwards, Executive Director – Delray Beach Historical Society and Nicholas Eddy, Chef at Florida Fresh OG.
This event is open not only to our bakers but also to our community. Come by to enjoy this family friendly contest and help to judge for the people’s choice award. Registration for non-bakers is required.
